Briefing part 2

Keith, his team, and the Vehicle team all came into the conference room for their one o’clock meeting. The one that Keith let slip his mind when talking to Coran.

"Ladies and gentlemen," Keith started, "please take your seats. We need to make this meeting quick before Coran and the Galaxy Alliance officers get here for the real briefing. And we need to get our stories straight."

"I can’t wait to here this one," Jeff whispered. "I can’t believe Keith got caught with his pants down."

Jeff’s wife, Lisa, whispered back, "This will be a very interesting story."

"I don’t have time to play games this afternoon!" Keith snapped. "Now this is what happened: Allura and I were in bed, making love. Neither of us were paying attention when Lotor attacked. Lotor charged the bed, and I saw him out of the corner of my eye. I held onto Allura, and rolled the both of us off the bed, to protect her and the twins. Lotor proceeded to try to kill me as his guards tried to kidnap Allura.

"So, after the battle, what happened that got you out of your rage and stopped you from going after Lotor?" Jeff asked.

"King Alfor appeared on my screen. He told me to go see about his pregnant daughter and my children. He referred to me as his future son-in-law. I think that might be a blessing."

Jeff whistled. "Wow, so that’s what got you to come to your senses."

"Yes. I’m supposed to go to see him tonight."

Lance, unable to hold it in any longer, yelped out, "When I got to Allura’s room, Keith was only in his boxer shorts."

"Well, Lance, I was fast enough to at least get them on. Now, everyone, be sure we have these stories straight. Sven, you tell Coran that you saw me in my boxers and Allura had her robe on. Lance, you tell him I came out of my angry rage in the lion on my own. Everything else doesn’t leave this room. Everybody got that?"

"Yes," they replied in unison.

"Now, let’s move to the real reason we’re having this meeting. Jeff, did you get the secret roses stored on the Explorer like I asked you to?"

Yes, Keith, I did. Do you know how hard was to hide that extra cargo? I had to lie to Commander Hawkins several times."

"Thanks, Jeff. I really appreciate it. Pidge, Hunk, did you inform Chip he was to help out with the sound equipment?"

"Sure did, Skipper," Pidge beamed. "We talked to him about it this morning."

"Good. Tiffany, Heather, Romelle, and Farla do you have Allura’s dress ready to go?"

"Of course, Keith," Tiffany replied. " We even asked Ginger and Lisa to help us out. We decided to have a make up party when we can do pedicures and manicure and our hair and everything."

"Well," Keith said, "just make sure it’s not all girl talk and that Allura gets to the party on time. Cliff, you will deliver the note to Allura. The rest of you know your assignments. Now, all we have to do is wait for the others to get here."

"Man, I can’t believe the most anal man in the Galaxy Alliance is getting married." Jeff said. "Who would have ever thought Keith would be ready to walk down the aisle?"

There were snickers all around the room.

"Well, I can’t believe that the ladies man, Lance Storm, proposed to Farla," Cliff added. "I thought Lance would stay a bachelor forever. He and Keith were both voted least likely of our class to get married. And then there’s Sven with that thick accent. I didn’t think anyone here would even be able to understand him. But, nevertheless, then sent the five of you to Arus and three of you found love."

"Our time will come," Hunk began, referring to himself and Pidge. "We’ve always been late bloomers."

"Late bloomers, maybe," Lance chuckled, "but never late for dinner."

This began a playful argument about the which was better: true love or a seven course royal dinner.

In the meantime, a castle guard overheard the voices in the conference room and went to tell Coran the meeting had started without him.

Down in the kitchen, Allura had ordered the maid to fix her a ham, peanut butter, jelly, and bacon sub sandwich.

"Your highness, that’s not good for the babies!"

Allura stomped her foot. "I’m hungry and I want food now. It’s not a request, it’s a royal order. Now get moving!"

The maid jump and immediately began to fix the sub sandwich.

"I-is there anything else, your highness?" the maid stuttered, handing her the grotesque culinary creation.

"Yes, make me a second one and bring it to the conference room. That will be all for now."

Allura strode out of the room, munching on her treat.

Coran and the Galaxy Alliance officers were meeting with King Ian from planet Steamer in Coran's study. They were discussing Captain Keith Armstrong’s behavior. In a recent mission, he was told to rescue the King’s daughter, Emily, named after her mother. Her ship had crashed on a hot, wind stormed, desert planet. He was unable to find her and had to leave her there, fearing for the safety of his team and the other people from the ship. She was saved by another team that went back to try to find her. She swore, along with some questionable witnesses, that she was running towards the ship yelling at them and they took off without her. Space Marshall Graham told them his plans.

"Captain Keith will be promoted to Admiral. He will be in command of the Sharpshooter Fleet on Planet Steamer, under King Ian’s command. This will happen instead of a court marshal, to keep Keith in the Alliance and still reprimand him for disobeying orders."

Graham then thought to himself, ‘And after a few months, he’ll return to Arus, no harm done. Everyone will be happy.’

Aloud, he said, "I just hope Keith goes along with our plan. It would pain me to see a good captain go to waste."

"If you take Keith away from planet Arus, who will fly Black Lion," Coran wondered aloud. "Allura can’t do it because of her pregnancy. That would mean we would need two replacement pilots instead of one."

"Don’t worry, Coran," Admiral Lawler reassured him. "I’ve already taken care of that. And speaking of the princess, I wonder if Dr. Carter has the results of the paternity test she performed."

"Almost," Coran replied. "Dr. Smith is running them again to be sure of the results. They’ll finally tell us whether or not Keith really is the father of those twins."

"But if he slept with the princess, he’s in violation of another Galaxy Alliance regulation," Admiral Lawler pointed out. "He may have to be discharged from the Alliance after all."

King Ian piped up. "Well, I still want Captain Keith to be in charge of my fleet even if he is discharge from Galaxy Alliance. He is still a good officer, even if he didn’t follow orders to get my daughter off that rock planet."

"That’s good to here, your highness," Coran replied. "But I don’t believe it will come to that. I know Keith wouldn’t have had intimate relations with Allura. He would never touch an innocent. There is probably another explanation. What bothers me is, if the test is positive, it will prove that everyone has been lying to me."

Just then there was a knock at the door.

"Enter," Coran said.

"Pardon the interruption, sir, but I thought you would like to know that the briefing has started without you."

"Is that so? Thank you. You are dismissed."

The guard make a quick bow and left.

Coran turned to his companions.

"Damn," he started, "now Keith is trying to take over the castle. Well, let’s go see what Captain Keith Armstrong is having his own briefing about, shall we?" Coran said as he got up from his chair.

They made their way to the conference room and Coran burst in without knocking.

"Young man," he bellowed, "who do you think you are having your own briefing an hour early!"

"I was trying to make sure that planet Arus was safe, sir," Keith replied innocently. "I thought I’d have a brainstorming session since I have Jeff here. Maybe together we can come up with a way to improve planet Arus’ fleet. It should be stronger just in case Voltron is too far away to get right away when trouble starts. Just thinking of Arus’ safety, that’s all."

"You had better not be lying. You have enough charges piling up on you, Captain," Marshall Graham said.

"Charges?! What charges?"

Graham explained to everyone the charges brought about by King Ian and the transfer of Keith to planet Steamer in lieu of a court marshal.

"Are you kidding me?!" Keith yelled. "There’s no way in hell I’m leaving."

"Where is the Princess?" Coran asked, ignoring Keith’s outburst.

"I’m right here, Coran," Allura said, walking into the room, still munching on her sandwich. "What’s going on?"

Both Keith and Coran looked on as the royal princess finished stuffing an odd concoction into her face, but neither said anything. They knew better by now.

"Your highness, something has come up," Coran said.

Just then, Dr. Carter walked into the room holding a medical folder. She made eye contact with Coran and signaled him over with her hand.

"Excuse me, princess."

He walked over to the doctor and took the folder from her. She whispered something to him as he opened it. An extremely angry expression came over Coran’s face and he marched back to Allura.

"You have a lot of explaining to do, young lady! How and why in the hell did you talk Keith into donating his sperm so you could be artificially inseminated?"

"What?" replied Allura. "How in the hell do you know Keith is the father, Coran?"

"Because I had Dr. Carter run a blood test."

"You had a paternity test done on my twins without my permission? How dare you! I was going to tell you who the father was when I was good and ready!"

Keith was at her side by now.

"Calm down, sweetheart."

"Don’t you talk to me that way!" Coran yelled. "I can’t believe you did this. Having Keith donate his sperm so you could have a baby without getting married."

"Having Keith don...," Allura began. "How can you say that? My babies were made by making love, not in some test tube."

The entire room gasped. The truth was finally out.

Allura was getting hysterical over what Coran had done. Keith put his hands on Allura’s shoulders to try to calm her down.

"Please, please, calm down," he pleaded.

"No, Keith, I will not calm down. I’m tired of them trying to run my life. I hope you’re satisfied now, Coran. I will never trust you again. I have half a mind to throw you off planet Arus. But I won’t. You are too valuable to it and the people. Plus, you were my father’s best friend. But you are not to interfere with any future decisions I make. And Keith and I had been talking about who the twins’ godparents would be. Since I have no family left, I naturally thought of you and Nanny. But now that’s out of the question. I don’t want godparents I can’t trust."

"Allura, honey," Keith continued to plead. "You can’t get the babies upset. Everything will be all right." He turned to Coran. "Yes, Coran, I am the father. But no one has to worry about Allura and the twins. I will always be here to provide for them and take care of my family."

"You have to get married immediately," Coran almost whimpered.

"Coran, I will get married when I'm good ready to.

"I will not be forced into marriage," Allura cried.

Keith balled his fist and said, "That's between Allura and me. It's not your cause. Nobody will force marriage on Allura just because she's pregnant with my twins. As along I have breath in my body, I have say so in the twins lives because I'm father. Allura was right: our babies were created out of our love for each other. I know it may hard to believe but yes, I touched an innocent. I may live by many rules and regulations but I love Allura and she loves me. And I was not about to let some rule keep us apart. We plan on raising the babies together. And no one will force us into marriage. We’ll get married when we’re both ready to."

Space Marshall Graham stepped up to Keith. "Young man, you may not care about some rules, but you will be punished for them. For sleeping with your superior and for failing to rescue Princess Emily."

King Ian felt he could interject here. "We’ve agreed to let you off with this small punishment. You report first thing in the morning. You are under new orders effective immediately."

"Like hell I am. I’m not leaving planet Arus. I’ve already said that I won’t leave my family. And I won’t leave Arus one lion short either. Allura can’t fly Black Lion because of her pregnancy."

"We know that, Captain," Admiral Lawler said. "But it doesn’t get you off the hook. A replacement pilot is on the way. His name is Captain Rick Flair. He graduated the academy when you did."

"Flair is too much of a dare devil to pilot Black. The first encounter he has with Lotor and he’s a dead man."

"Marshall Graham has already said Flair will be the new Captain," Lawler continued. "And Coran has already signed the papers."

"I don’t remember signing papers for a new captain," Allura said. "So that means you must have forged my signature, Coran."

"As castle advisor I have the right to sign papers too. I think this will be best for planet Arus, even more so now. You are not thinking straight at the moment."

"I’m thinking straight, alright. You just think I’m gonna let this slip by without any resistance, don’t you. You think I’m still a little girl who doesn’t know how to run a planet. Take a good look at me, Coran. I’ve grown up and I can make decisions on my own."

"You should just promote Lance to captain. He may be a dare devil, but he has a good head on his shoulders and he believes in protecting the people. He would definitely make a better captain than Rick Flair. The only way I’d take him on is if he agreed to fly Blue Lion and take orders from me.

"You don’t understand, captain," Lawler said. "You will be going to planet Steamer in the morning."

Keith replied, "We’ll see whether or not I’ll be leaving."
